Meet the Teacher: Natalie Beddoes

[Watercolor & Kids Art]

At The HeART Collective, our teachers aren't just instructors — they're members of this community who show up every week to share something they love. Today we'd like you to meet Natalie Beddoes, who teaches Adult Watercolor and Kids Art classes here at The HeART Collective in Payson, UT. We interviewed her and this is what she shared.

Art is Everywhere

My name is Natalie Beddoes, and I've been teaching art for many years — from the basement of my home to a more professional studio setting. That journey has looked different throughout the years, but one thing stays constant: art is everywhere. It’s found in everyday life — in small moments and the quiet spaces. Creativity often sneaks in when you least expect it.

I believe creativity is something that happens in small moments every day. And I've made it my life's work to help people find those moments and lean into them.

Outside of teaching, you'll find me writing poems, journaling, drawing, baking bread, or cooking. Creating isn't just what I teach — it's how I live.

What Watercolor Has Taught Me

I love teaching art because it heals hearts.

Whatever is going on in your life — the stress, the noise, the weight of it all — if you make time to create, you will feel better. That's not just something I say. I've watched it happen over and over again in my classes.

Watercolor in particular has a way of doing something no other medium quite does: it teaches us to let go. You can't force watercolor. You can't control it the way you can a pencil or a piece of clay. It moves and blooms and does unexpected things — and learning to work with that, to find the beauty in surrender and in faith, is one of the most powerful things a person can experience.

Perfectionism doesn't stand a chance in my class. And honestly? That's the whole point.

Just Dive IN — I'll Bring the Life Preserver

I am open, friendly, and all about discovery. My classes aren't about technique for technique's sake. They're about showing up, trying something, and seeing what happens.

Here's the one thing I wish every student knew before their first class with me: you can make something beautiful. No talent needed. I mean that. The students who walk in most convinced they "can't draw" or "aren't creative" are often the ones who surprise themselves the most.

One of my favorite moments as a teacher was when a student looked at their finished painting and said it was the best painting they'd ever done. That moment — the look on their face — is exactly why I do this.

If you're nervous about signing up, I have one thing to say to you: just do it. Dive in head first. I'll provide the life preserver!

I'm easy going, I love to really get to know the people in my classes, and I genuinely love to teach. Whatever your age, whatever your experience level, there is a place for you at the table — and something beautiful waiting to be made.
