Helping Confidence Blossom Through Music

Hi! I'm Katie D. Higley, founder of The HeART Collective, and I teach singing, choir, ukulele, guitar, musical theater and songwriting classes here at The HeART Collective! Pretty much anything to do with music!

I’ve been teaching for over 18 years, and from the very beginning, I’ve felt a deep love for helping students discover their voice—both musically and personally. Teaching music isn’t just about learning notes or technique for me. It’s about creating a space where students feel seen, valued, and capable of more than they realized.

What I love most is watching confidence blossom. There’s something so special about seeing a student go from unsure or hesitant to standing tall, singing with confidence, and believing in themselves. Those moments are powerful, and they’re the reason I love what I do.

Music with Purpose

One thing that’s really important to me as a teacher is helping students understand where their gifts come from. I love giving glory to Jesus, who I believe is the source of all creativity and talent. When students begin to see their abilities as gifts, it can completely change how they approach learning, performing, and even how they see themselves.

I would describe my teaching style as fun, loving, and upbeat. I want my classes to feel like a place where students can grow, take risks, and enjoy the process of becoming who they’re meant to be.

Some of my favorite moments as a teacher are the ones that feel truly life-changing—when a student has a breakthrough, whether it’s hitting a note they never thought they could, writing something meaningful, or simply realizing, “I can do this.” Being part of those moments is something I never take for granted.

Creating and Sharing What Matters Most

Outside of teaching, I love creating music—especially music centered on worship and faith. Writing and performing songs is one of the ways I express my creativity and connect with what matters most to me.

I believe creativity is a gift from God, and our ability to imagine, create, and express ourselves is something deeply meaningful. It’s not just about performance—it’s about connection, purpose, and sharing something real with the world.

A Message to Students

If you’re feeling nervous or unsure about joining a class, I want you to know this:

Everything you’ve ever wanted to experience is on the other side of trying.

You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to be willing to take that first step. This is a place where you can grow, build confidence, and discover what you’re capable of.

Because that’s what we do here—we help students blossom and grow.

Come discover your voice and grow your confidence through music.
